Man of Peace – John Hume Dies

HumeSince news of his death was released there have been scores of tributes paid to one of Ireland’s true peacemakers, John Hume. Much has been made of his attitude to finding lasting peace in Ireland and many have remarked that even when it was not safe for him to do so, John Hume was always committed to doing and saying the right thing.

John Hume and the legacy he leaves will be a source of reflection for a long time to come. One of the best documentaries to capture exactly the lengths he went to in order to bring peace to the island of Ireland was written and produced by Maurice Fitzpatrick called “In the Name of Peace: John Hume in America”.

On the week before its screening on RTE Television, Ger Sweeney spoke to Fitzpatrick about his documentary. The interview was aired on Spain’s Irish radio programme, Live on Eire, which is presented by Sweeney on Talk Radio Europe each Monday evening. Here is that interview again, and when you’ve heard it, please make sure to watch the film.
