The Shevlin twins from Donegal will once again be visiting Spain for the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. Since 2013 Niamh and Gavin Shevlin have been wowing audiences in Benalmadena and Torremolinos so their return for the 2019 celebrations is a very welcome announcement.
“The Shevlins have been dancing since they were four years old and have amassed an amazing FOUR world titles in both solo and ceili dancing. Last year saw them dance in the world renowned Lord of the Dance and to have them coming back to Spain in March is fantastic news” said Terry McKinley, President of the Irish Association of Spain, who initially brought Niamh and Gavin to the coast six years ago.
Mr. McKinley continues “as previously announced this year’s celebration marks a new departure for co-operation, with the association assisting in the events being held in Marbella and La Cala. The co-operative approach to the St. Patrick’s Weekend events will ensure that the Shevlin twins will dance in La Cala and Marbella over the 15th, 16th and 17th as well as the festivals being held in Plaza de la Nogalera from 1pm on Saturday and Sunday and in Plaza de la Mezquita in Benalmadena from 1pm on Sunday 17th March”.
In the coming weeks the Irish Association in Spain will be releasing the details of all events, including timing, taking place in Torremolinos, Benalmadena, La Cala and Marbella so those anxious to see the wealth of talent taking part can make arrangements to go along to their chosen venue or venues.
Following their appearance in Torremolinos for the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations last March Niamh and Gavin Shevlin received another award for their efforts. In April the 19 year old twins were presented with the prestigious All Ireland Business All-Star Award at a ceremony in croke Park, Dublin. The award ceremony is an event that takes place at the all Ireland Business Summit. Its aim is to identify and recognise the achievements of outstanding and progressive Irish companies and individuals.
The events calendar will be updated regularly in the lead up to St. Patrick’s Weekend on the Irish Association website (www.irishassociationspain.com), the association’s facebook page and through the Emerald Connection website (www.emeraldconnection.net). There will also be information available from the Claddagh Irish Bar in Marbella and Biddy Mulligans in La Cala de Mijas.
