19 Year Old Tipperary Jockey’s Perfect Start to Racing Career

Emma-Doyle-696x385It was a surreal week for one 19 year old Tipperary woman. On Thursday she received her jockey’s licence and 24 hours later she was riding Northern Surprise to victory in Dundalk.

In an interview with “Tipp Today” Producer Ben Sweeney Emma, who is a second year student in Maynooth, said that she’s been riding since she was seven or eight years old. Having taken part in some schooling races she could never have dreamt that her first race after receiving her jockey’s licence could have had such a spectacular outcome.

Northern Surprise, who is owned by Emmas’ mother Claire and is trained by her father Tim went into the race in Dundalk at a price of 20/1.

Here, Emma tells Ben about this amazing start to her racing career.

Tipp Today is the morning current affairs programme on Tipp FM. The programme is presented by Fran Curry weekdays from 9am
